Why Roero is Called “Roero”

The name Roero comes from the ancient and noble Asti family of Roero, who in the Middle Ages owned most of the castles and lands in this area.

A historic presence that can still be seen today: the Roero family castle, located just 300 meters from Rocche di Montexelo and open to visitors, is one of the most iconic symbols of the territory, telling centuries of local history.

Today, the name Roero is also synonymous with wine excellence, thanks to the prestigious Roero DOCG and Roero Arneis wines – authentic expressions of this unique Piedmontese region, where history, landscapes, and tradition blend harmoniously.
